Sussex Senior Cup

Worthing hold the record for the most wins in the Sussex Senior cup winning the trophy 21 times. The to the reds are Brighton and Hove Albion with 13 wins.

The Reds have made the FA Cup first round three times in the clubs history.

In 1936 that the Rebels reached the first round the FA Cup for the first time in their history. The first four opponents all came from the County League, with Worthing beating Vernon Athletic 2-O, Hove 7-0 and Horsham 2-1 all at home(with 2804 watching the Horsham game) and then winning 1-0 at Southwick. Wimbledon at home in the fourth qualifying round came next as the Rebels rose to the occasion backed by a crowd of 3690 and pulled off a memorable 2-0 win.

In the first round the reds faced Yeovil the the final score was 4-3 in Yeovil's favour but they were accounted very lucky to win.

In the Fifties it was a very close-knit community. The vast majority of players were born and bred in and around Worthing and the occasional player from as far away as Brighton and Hove was regarded as something of a foreigner but nonetheless welcome once having established their credentials in the school of hard knocks.
